Sure, we all love the results of a good workout, but what about the process? Let's face it: Sometimes our workout routines can be more of a chore than a getaway. And who needs more chores?
Here's the good news: Workouts can be fun. So fun, in fact, that you'll actually look forward to them. All you need is the right attitude and these easy tips on how to spice up your bland workouts.
Buddy Up
It's much easier to get out the door to work out when you know a buddy is waiting on the other side. Buddies are fantastic for conversation and they're also great sources of motivation and encouragement. Plus, you’re much less likely to slack off when another person is keeping tabs on you.
Join a Class
What's better than one buddy? More buddies! Just imagine a whole room full of people just like you, laughing and learning together with an instructor. As far as classes go, the sky is the limit. You can try conservative alternatives such as Pilates or yoga, or go wild with various dance and aerobic classes.
Entertain Yourself
Put the distracting power of entertainment to work by jamming to your MP3 player or watching your favorite show while you burn calories. And turn up the volume; the more raucous the entertainment, the more pumped you'll feel.
Find a Creative Angle
Sometimes you don't need to change what you do to work out; you simply need to make it more creative. Been running on the treadmill for a while? Take those legs outside—around the block or in a park. Love the stair stepper? Try feeling the burn by hiking through the woods or going rock climbing.
Reward Yourself
It's easier to run toward a goal when there's a reward waiting at the finish line. Set reasonable goals and objectives; every time you meet them, reward yourself. Try non-food-based rewards so you don't set back your fitness goals.
Try Something Different
The problem with following a workout routine is that it often gets boring. So step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Ask your friends what they do to get fit. Look for sports leagues or find out what kind of fitness programs your gym offers. No matter what you choose, the change of pace will stimulate your mind and your muscles.
