Be Physically Active!
Aim for 30 minutes or more of physical activity most days of the week. To stay motivated, set goals that inspire you, such as participating in a walk, run, or bike ride for charity. Some individuals enjoy the solitude of "solo" exercise, but many stay on track by exercising with a group or a partner.
To avoid boredom and monotony, mix up your routine. This might involve changing the type of activity—for example alternating walking and swimming. Or it might be just a change in the venue, such as a different walking path.
Physical activity has many benefits. In addition to heart health, muscle strength, and weight control, research shows that physical activity helps improve insulin sensitivity.
Eat Healthy!
Strict "diabetic diets" are a thing of the past. People with diabetes should eat the same healthy diet recommended for all people. Key strategies for eating better include: choosing foods low in saturated fat, eating reasonable portions, and making vegetables a part of every meal.
